Higher courts Russia thinking about imposing the death penalty in the country since January 1, 2010 - because of Chechnya

Russia's Supreme Court asked the Constitutional Court (CC) to clarify the possibility of the death penalty in the country since January 1, 2010, when jury trials will start operating in Chechnya. While it remains the only region in Russia, where such courts are not functioning.

According to a Supreme Court judge, Vladimir Davydov, who spoke on Thursday, the rapporteur on this matter, for sentencing in death penalty, there are some legal grounds, which, however, conflict with international law, ITAR-TASS reported.
