Defenders Khimkinsky forests sued Putin

On Wednesday, the Movement for Defense Khimkinsky forest is served in Russia’s Supreme Court lawsuit, which demands to nullify an order of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin about the transfer of forest land for the construction of the route Moscow - St. Petersburg. As reported at the site traffic, Environmental Defense, Moscow region, claim the essence of the claims is that the prime minister, signed the order on the fate of the forest (№ 1642 from November 5, 2009), has publicly violated Russia’s laws. Translation of the forest park land for the construction of federal facilities is possible only if there are no alternative options for placement, but the alternative routes for not only exist, but officially recognized.

Activists believe that the adopted “curved” version of the route, which extends it to 6 km, is designed specifically to capture the forest land under the large-scale commercial development. Earlier, on December 19, the illegality of the order number 1642 said Greenpeace.

Recall this is the second lawsuit on behalf of the Movement Khimkinsky forests. The first claim on the illegality of environmental impact assessment of the project route Moscow - St. Petersburg, passed all the courts in Russia and now awaits consideration in Strasbourg.
